Halloween is one of those holidays that significantly changes as you get older. As a kid, it's all about the candy. Teenagers celebrate it by group horror movie nights. College kids, well let's be honest...dressing scantily clad and drinking. At my awkward age, half of my friends are taking their kids trick or treating while the other half is going to a raging party. I don't have kids and I have no desire to drink dressed as a sexy plumber, police officer, construction worker, or whatever girls are dressing sexy as. (Gah, I sound old.)
The one thing I get really excited about at Halloween, is dressing up my pups. Yes, they only wear their costumes for maybe 20 minutes. Yes, it's silly. But hell, it makes me laugh and I love it. This year I decided to try and make some dog treats of my own, for the very first time.
Pumpkin Dog Treat Recipe
3/4 cup of canned pumpkin
1/2 teaspoon of salt
2 tablespoons of dry milk
2 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Blend eggs and pumpkin together. Then add salt, milk, and flour.
If the mixture is too dry, add water till dough is workable.
The dough will be dry and stiff so using your hands is easier and better.
Roll to approximately 1/2 inch thick. Cut out cookies.
Place on ungreased cookie sheets about 1 inch apart.Bake on one side for 20 minutes, then flip and bake for an additional 20 minutes.
The recipe made enough that I decided to make some "trick or treat" bags for some of our favorite pooches that belong to our close friends. I decided they needed some cute Halloween treat tags, but surprisingly, there aren't a lot out there for dog treats. That's okay! I'll make some of my own.
